Die-hard fans of southern rap will be familiar with the Hood movie "Baller Blockin". Released in December 2000, the gangster flick tells the story of the exit of the Cash Money Records label and the Hot Boys from the notorious Magnolia Project in New Orleans. Despite its star cast - Lil Wayne, Juvenile, BG Turk, Mannie Fresh and Birdman are in the film - the film unfortunately does not achieve cult status like "Menace II Society", "The Streets of Harlem" or "Boyz in da Hood". The soundtrack, on the other hand, hit higher waves. listening to the above rappers as well as features with Nas, E-40, UGK, 8Ball & MJG and Mack 10. Why does this matter? This Sound is nothing less than the roots of today's trap music. YoungBoy and Birdman now want to revive this part of rap history.
Birdman and NBA YoungBoy teaser part 2
NBA YoungBoy is currently one of the most hyped rappers ever. Some have even gone so far as to refer to him as "modern Tupac" for his influence on youth culture. Just like the Cash Money CEO, YB is from Louisiana. Therefore, Birdman brought the young father of 9 to continue the tradition of Baller Blockin.
In a recent Insta post, Birdman featured a poster of Baller Blockin 2 with the announcement "Coming soon." The post received many likes in a very short time and was shared many times. At the same time, YB asked his fans on his YouTube channel who they would like to see in the film.
Not the first joint project
Birdman and YB are not working together for the first time. They teamed up last year for the mixtape From the Bayou, which made it to the top 20 on the Billboard charts and earned the pair a nomination for Best Duo at this year's BET Awards.
In addition, the young boy, who is under house arrest, released the surprise mixtape "3800 Degrees", the title and cover art of which is a homage to Juvenile's multi-platinum album "400 Degrees". Accordingly, the tape was celebrated and promoted by Cash Money. Whether "Baller Blockin 2" convinces with better storytelling and more appealing pictures remains to be seen. In any case, we'll treat ourselves to the film - just for the sake of tradition - and let you know whether the film is worth it from our point of view.
